About the Court Case
In 1999 the Chilko Resorts & Community association began dialogue collectively with the Xeni Gwet’in First Nations Government. At that time, Chief Roger William, Councillors David Setah and Gilbert Solmon were in leadership. Since then, we have also worked with Councillor Robbin Lulua and most recently leadership changed to Chief Marilyn Baptiste, Councillors Lois Williams and Benny William.
The association meets regularly with Xeni Gwet’in leadership to discuss community issues and concerns and undertake initiatives jointly. In 2003 the Sustainable Tourism Protocol Agreement was signed between the two organizations to provide a framework to work together. Under the Agreement one of the primary mutual understandings is “ to develop or enhance initiatives aimed at environmental protection and generating sustainable tourism opportunities.
Under the Sustainable Tourism Protocol Agreement initiatives aim to inform community members residing and businesses operating within the Xeni Gwet’in Caretaker area about the joint projects undertaken in the community.
In this section information is provided to update people on current projects and outcomes undertaken within the Xeni Gwet’in Caretaker area.
